Design, Modelling and Optimization of a High Power Density Axial Flux SRM with Reduced Torque Ripple for Electric Vehicles

Switched reluctance machines (SRMs) are potential candidates for use in the propulsion systems of electric vehicles. However, they suffer from low power density and high torque ripple. In this paper, a segmented rotor double-sided axial flux SRM (DSAFSRM) is chosen detailed analysis. A hybrid design algorithm proposed to take effects iron non-linearity into account. The procedure benefits simplicity accuracy at same time. two-step optimization presented which minimizes ripple DSAFSRM without jeopardizing its efficiency. reduced 120% 35% after optimization. procedure, both geometrical switching related parameters investigated. Moreover, radial designed compared with terms ripple, average torque, efficiency density. results indicate superior performance optimized DSAFSRM, especially 26% higher than produced by SRM.
